Throughout all of history there have been a variety of religions. In most of them, God communicates with man. From the Old Testament we have various prophets that deliver guidelines for living and God's warnings. Even when men and women ignore God, he continues to send his messages.
In December we celebrate the wonderful holiday of Christmas. Another mystery for sure, but the ultimate message from God. He doesn't just send the message, he sends a living example of Himself.
Wanting more than just to communicate, He wants to live as one of us. He wants us to see, hear, and touch him in the flesh. He desires to leave His greatness and funnel Himself into the finite, human package of a baby born of a mother. When we wonder why we put up with the coldest winter, He chooses to experience the chill, the hunger pangs, the pains of being alive as one of us. Leaving the comfort of what we imagine heaven to be, to live among us. To be with us as one of us. Not a vicarious experience but a real one.
God's desire to be with us
